Question by chokolateebob: How can I make my computer speak the time and how to download new voices onto computer?
I had a mac, but I don’t use it much anymore, and I know that you can set it to speak the time is either at certain times or I think when you ask it to. But now I have an XP and I was wondering if I could still do that, and possibly even on voice command?
Also, if you know how, how can you get new voices onto you computer such as for the “text to speech” thing instead of that one boring guy’s voice?

You could do that.

VoIP is one type of technology that offers mostly benefits and it is definitely not hard to use. The largest benefit that VoIP promises is that it will provide you with high quality long distance services without the cost that usually goes along with it.
Instead of going with just what the VoIP sales people are offering or counting on what the long distance carriers are saying, take the time to fully learn what the options are that you have. Learning about VoIP for yourself will allow

Question by What I Say: Why do Google and some Americans confuse “free speech” with what is obvious racism?
in ref to:
www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-google-obama25-2009nov25,0,98932.story
This is not a simple matter of where do we draw the line on censorship. This is a matter of the distortion of rights. It’s INTENTION that reveals racism, and racism is a form of violence.
The news article says an image (manipulated to make the face of Michelle Obama look like a monkey) was posted on a blog called “Hot Girls” (may have been removed), but currently the website linked to the gross image is a forum that’s ridiculously over-the-top anti-government. The thread that was supposed to have contained the image reads like it was written by a Timothy McVeigh, or maybe the person you’d see at a G8 summit riot. Big quotes from civil rights leaders and news of their assasinations, lots of talk about “globalist pigs” and the government using “psychotechnology,” mind control programs, social engineering, etc. The moderators of the forum apparently removed the image because it’s no longer there, but Google thinks it’s appropriate to leave it up on image search, apparently in the name of freedom of speech.
About Google blogs from the news article:
“Rubin [Google spokesperson] said Blogger users have to adhere to the site’s terms of service, including a ban on hate speech, which the agreement defines as “content that promotes hate or violence towards groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status or sexual orientation/gender identity.
…a determination of hate speech, under company terms, would heavily rely on whether a site was ‘attacking or advocating attacks on a person.’
‘An image alone may not provide enough context to constitute a violation of the policies,’ he added.
A different website containing the same altered image of Obama was banned by Google several days ago, but only because the site was deemed to contain malware that could spread a virus or similar online malady. When a site is dropped from Google’s index, the search engine will not present it as a result.”
–The spreading of a computer virus is intentionally inflicting harm, and this is the same intention with the manipulation of an African-American’s face into that of a monkey. It would be sheer ignorance to not know in American culture that this image is intended to do harm. Google is allowing people to spread harm through the Internet, in support of people who don’t understand what racism is. This is not simply about “freedom.” It’s freedom without responsibility. Even Yahoo Answers realizes you can’t just let all people say whatever they want without there being consequences for what is obviously intended to be harmful!
Why do some Americans believe that the “right” of free speech gives them the “right” to engage in a form of violence and racism and cause obvious harm? Do they just think there’s no such thing as racism?
Dan: Racism is not making fun of the “Hill Billie.” Do you understand what racism is? It’s a form of violence against African Americans. It’s not INTENDED to be funny, it is intended to inflict harm.
FleetTech: You’re suggesting racism shouldn’t be disturbing in a culture that so values freedom? Absolutely wrong. Racism is just as wrong as any inflicted harm.

First off I do not agree with this one bit: “Even Yahoo Answers realizes you can’t just let all people say whatever they want without there being consequences for what is obviously intended to be harmful!”
Also we do have freedom of speech, everyone laughed at the Hill/Billy. Everyone makes fun about presidents and presidential figures.
Also, do you know how much money google is making right now, why would they care.

** For whatever reason, I am unable to add replies to comments on my videos (thanks youtube!). You can download LCARS x32 from www.lcarsx32.com in the “downloads” section. Stop by the forums, I can actually reply there! ** I’m not much of a public speaker, but it’s hard to show Speech Recognition without talking. The new version of LCARSx32 is up on the site. It has a few new features including an improved start menu, an improved my computer, and added voice commands.

Quick Translation
Everybody in the translation business can tell you about customers who want translations produced very quickly. The stories are endless.
Most translators can type anything from 2500 words to 4000 words in a day, but often that is too slow to satisfy the requirements of a customer faced with an emergency situation.
Often a translation agency will split large translations which are required urgently between several translators, but in this case the problem of harmonising vocabulary can become quite difficult to solve and this is where computer translation memories come into their own.
For an experienced translator, the number of words he or she can produce per day can be considerably increased by using dictation. With the advent of small hand-held digital recorders with computer access, it becomes possible to send a dictation to a typist by email, have the typist type the translation in Word and then receive it back again by email. Of course, when the typed translation is received back from the typist, it has to be carefully proof-read and corrected where necessary.
Personally, I can speak much faster than I can write so I can send a dictation of 5000 words to one typist, send the second 5000 to a second typist, and so on. This makes it possible to translate well over 10,000 words per day.
Another way to produce translations very quickly is to use one of the speech recognition programs which have seen a lot of improvement over the last few years. Using one of these systems, the translator speaks into a microphone and the words appear on the computer screen. Some correction is always needed, but the system can work just as fast as one can speak.
There is another way of approaching the typing problem, which is to dictate to one of the computer speech recognition programs, where the words are typed by the computer directly on the screen. These programs have seen a great deal of improvement recently.
This dictation process becomes easier with experience and it does offer real savings in time.
And after all, it’s our time that we are selling in the translation business
