How do you turn off text to speech on a windows vista computer?

Alison asked:

Under control panel there is an icon called text to speech. One day I clicked on it and started the voice on my computer. Now I can’t turn it off. Everytime I highlight text it speeks said text. I don’t want to delete the program, I just want to turn it off.

    Hiya Alison,

This is simply solved – Go to the section on your main screen where you see the current time displayed. This is called the ”System Tray”, all sorts of little icons are visible here, there is even a little arrow gadget which would normally point to the right if you have a lot of programs running to help you use windows. ”Left click” the little arrow in a circle – This will expand the list to display more little icons, run the mouse slowly over the ”System tray” in order to launch a pop-up window for each icon, once you reach the icon that says something like ”Text To Speech Tool”, ”Right-click” it. A pop-up list will appear displaying what options are available – Go to which ever option gives you either ”Properties” or ”Settings”, ”Left-Click” this item. A new panel will appear – From here select the item that says something like ”Launch at start-up” it should have a box next to it, which will be either ticked or marked in some way – Simply ”Left-Click” this item so that it appears to be clear, and ”Left-click” the ”Apply” Button followed the the ”OK” button – this should solve your problem.

    Hope this helps,

    Alex
