What’s the best type of microphone to use for computer speech recognition and where can I get one at a good $?

   believe it or not but the best mic i found for voice recognition is my PlayStation2 mic
   it is made by logitech and you can find it at the console accessory section at wal-mart or k-mart for like $20

   A headset is best. With a headset the distance to the microphone is fixed, this makes the volume more uniform and better for speech recognition.

   Only buy items rated 5 stars and with a lot of reviews.
